Freelance set designer
I design and build the 3D backgrounds that presenters and hosts stand in front of. Each set is made in Unreal Engine and runs in Voyager by Ross, so it is ready to shoot as soon as it is delivered.
What I do
A virtual set has to look good on camera and run in real time. I build environments in Unreal Engine with that in mind: the layout leaves room for the presenter, the lighting flatters skin, and the materials hold up under the lens.
Your team then loads the finished set in Voyager and uses it as the background for video.
Pipeline
I model, light and dress the set, then test it from the camera angles the show will use.
The set is loaded in Voyager by Ross, which plays it in real time behind the talent.
The team shoots the video with the set as the background.
Featured set
Unreal Engine → Voyager
This is the set I built for my first Voyager project. The clip shows me standing inside it, live, with the Unreal environment playing behind me in real time.
Photogrammetry
I have used RealityScan to turn photos of real objects and spaces into 3D models. Scanned assets can go straight into an Unreal set, which gives the background real texture and detail that is slow to model by hand.
